Talkfest and Iberian Festival Awards'18: numbers and conclusions

The 7th edition of Talkfest took place this past week, with two days of activities at Forum Lisboa (Iberian Festival Awards) and Museu das Comunicações (Conferences, Presentations, Seminars, Documentaries, Exhibitions, Job Fair and a Exclusive Meeting for Iberian Promoters).

After last year edition in Barcelona, the gala of the Iberian Festival Awards had an auditorium with double the capacity of the previous editions in order to receive more live performances new awarded categories. A night to remember, with a room ready to enjoy the live performances (Miguel Araújo, Desakato, Madepaz, Whales, Quartoquarto and All You Can Swing – with a medley of some of the iconic artists to step foot in music festivals) while the national and iberian winners of all 23 categories were announced.

It was a night of partying, with the gala serving as a pretext for meeting, reunions, hugs and strengthning partnerships in order to raise the competivity in this area. Resurrection Fest, Fmm Sines, O Sol da Caparica, Festival Med, Bons Sons, Wam Estrela de Levante and Bilbao BBK Live took home more than one award. Roberta Medina (vice-president of Rock in Rio Lisboa) received the Excellence Award for the evolution of her project with each edition, which takes the quality of its competition and stakeholders (e.g. service providers – audiovisuals, media partners ad partners) to an other level.

Talkfest was once again the showcase of a discussion of current themes that interfere in the area of festivals, such as the presentation of projects that otimize processes in this area.

Promoters, brands, presidents, mayors, journalists and service providers, together inside and outside of the several auditoriums/rooms in order to acquire tools that potenciate its network. Several news were given firsthand, highlighting the presentation of the case study of Roskilde Festival, explained by its CEO Signe Lopdrup, in a festival with non-profit motives but professionalized in a humanitarian object through volunteers, the theme of ticket sales and how portuguese festivals will evolve to accept parallel sales and online with its audience, brands look for notoriety and now the buzz they will have by being contextualized in a festival though the impact of image sharing and audience vídeos on social media.

Another of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the 2017 edition of “O perfil do festivaleiro” (APORFEST study) that showed and increase in the number of festivals consumed. There were: 4 rooms with simultaneous programming in every moment (conferences, professional and scientific presentations, seminars); an exclusive moment dedicated to iberian promoters with the goal of optimizing sinergies in a two year distance; and the photographic exhibition “O poder dos festivais”.

The 2019 edition of Talkfest is already confirmed for march. The first day dedicated to Iberian Festival Awards and the second day filled with a variety of ativities in order to debate the future of festivals in Portugal – a special edition, inclusive that will work on the convergence and divergence of several types of festivals (e.g music, cinema, theatre, literature, and a crossing of other subjects).

We would like to give a special thanks to all of APORFEST’s associates (the main support of the event, and who made it possible for it to have an increase in quality this past edition, with more than 75% of the costs of the event belonging to the association), all the speakers and moderators in the several sections of the programme, jury members, the bands that performed at the Gala, sponsors and partners (specially Turismo de Portugal, Turismo de Lisboa and Fundação GDA), staff (our own and partners such as Last Step, Polishows and ECL) and of course the public that participated in the event, we hope you acquired the information and skills to apply in this year’s work.
